A Song My Kids & I "Wrote"

... with some rather significant help for the structure and melody from a favorite Christmas carol! We composed this ditty on the way home from school some years ago, and it escapes my memory why we thought it was a good idea. Still, we enjoyed thinking of fun things from school.

On the First Day of School

On the first day of school, my teacher gave to me … a book in a purple backpack.

On the second of school, my teacher gave to me … two lucky pencils and a book in a purple backpack.

On the third day of school, my teacher gave to me … three Wolford stickers, two lucky pencils and a book in a purple backpack.

On the fourth day of school, my teacher gave to me … four red roses, three Wolford stickers, two lucky pencils and a book in a purple backpack.

On the fifth day of school, my teacher gave to me … five golden scissors, four red roses, three Wolford stickers, two lucky pencils and a book in a purple backpack.

On the sixth day of school, my teacher gave to me … six students singing, five golden scissors, four red roses, three Wolford stickers, two lucky pencils and a book in a purple backpack.

On the seventh day of school, my teacher gave to me … seven principals talking, six students singing, five golden scissors, four red roses, three Wolford stickers, two lucky pencils and a book in purple backpack.

On the eighth day of school, my teacher gave to me … eight janitors sweeping, seven principals talking, six students singing, five golden scissors, four red roses, three Wolford stickers, two lucky pencils and a book in a purple backpack.

On the ninth day of school, my teacher gave to me … nine pupils painting, eight janitors sweeping, seven principals talking, six students singing, five golden scissors, four red roses, three Wolford stickers, two lucky pencils and a book in a purple backpack.

On the tenth day of school, my teacher gave to me … ten friends a-playing, nine pupils painting, eight janitors sweeping, seven principals talking, six students singing, five golden scissors, four red roses, three Wolford stickers, two lucky pencils and a book in a purple backpack.

On the eleventh day of school, my teacher gave to me … eleven hula hoops turning, ten friends a-playing, nine pupils painting, eight janitors sweeping, seven principals talking, six students singing, five golden scissors, four red roses, three Wolford stickers, two lucky pencils and a book in a purple backpack.

On the twelfth day of school, my teacher gave to me … twelve slides a-sliding, eleven hula hoops turning, ten friends a-playing, nine pupils painting, eight janitors sweeping, seven principals talking, six students singing, five golden scissors, four red roses, three Wolford stickers, two lucky pencils and a book in a purple backpack.
